Elcomsoft Distributed Password Recovery goes 64-bit, adds NVIDIA Blackwell support

Elcomsoft Distributed Password Recovery 5.0 receives a major update, transitioning to a 64-bit code base. This update unlocks native support for the latest NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs (RTX 50 series) and modern CUDA toolkits to deliver maximum performance on modern hardware.

We are excited to announce the release of Elcomsoft Distributed Password Recovery 5.0. This milestone update brings a fundamental architectural shift, migrating the entire product ecosystem to a 64-bit architecture to support the latest generation of GPU acceleration hardware.

The move to a 64-bit architecture represents a major step forward in high-performance computing. With the release of version 5.0, Elcomsoft Distributed Password Recovery enables full compatibility with the latest NVIDIA CUDA framework, a requirement for supporting NVIDIA’s latest hardware. This transition is essential for forensic laboratories looking to deploy the newest and most powerful hardware available on the market, the NVIDIA RTX 50 series based on Blackwell architecture.

By refactoring the computational kernels and plugins code base into 64-bit, we ensure that the software can communicate directly with modern acceleration frameworks. This allows investigators to harness the massive parallel throughput of NVIDIA's Blackwell generation cards, such as the GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080, delivering unprecedented speed in password recovery attacks. This update effectively future-proofs the tool, aligning it with the industry-wide shift to 64-bit computing across Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA platforms.

Newly added formats

In addition to refactoring the code base into 64 bits, we added support for several formats. Check Release Notes for the full list. Notable is the added support for Argon2id algorithm in the ODF 1.4 extended format (a variation of OpenDoc used in the latest Libre Office). Argon2id is specifically designed to resist GPU-assisted attacks, hence we developed a highly optimized, CPU-only implementation.

Elcomsoft Distributed Password Recovery continues to use state-of-the-art acceleration techniques to speed up recovery, utilizing all available GPUs installed in the workstation. With the new 64-bit engine, the software maximizes the potential of the latest hardware, significantly reducing the time required to recover passwords for hundreds of supported file formats, from encrypted archives to full-disk encryption volumes.
